GENTIAN, DWARF BLUE: A very interesting Gentiana species that performs very well in our dry plots in full sun - most Gentians are moisture loving. Suited for the rock garden, clusters of blue to white flowers appear in July and August on short - to 20 cm tall - plants. Deep green, thick waxy leaves. Native to Central Asia, it has proven very winter hardy here. Sow seeds indoors in early May - cover the seeds only slightly as they need light to germinate. Keep moist and warm. Seeds may benefit from a period of 2-3 week moist stratification before planting. Slow to develop - transplant when large enough to move outdoors. 40 seeds. P534
