WILD CHIVES: Closely resembling common Garden Chives, this species can be found locally in the Edmonton area, but is more common in the southern third of the province. Compact, edible plants grow 20-30 cm tall and flower in late May into June. Flower clusters are purple to pink. This species prefers a sunny, well-drained site, although it will grow in semi-shade conditions. Seeds can be sown in the fall or early spring direct, or started inside after a 2-3 week moist stratification period. Cover the seeds with .5 cm of soil. Attracts bees and other pollinating insects. 70 seeds NF 708
