SMOOTH BLUE PENSTEMON: Common in the southern third of Alberta, this is my favorite native penstemon. Purple/bluish tubular flowers on short 20-30 cm tall plants - thick pale green/gray leaves. Flowers appear in late May and early June. Excellent choice for the rock garden in a sunny dry area. Best planted in clumps for effect. Seeds need to be moist stratified for 3-4 weeks prior to a spring planting or can be fall seeded in October.    60 seeds.    NF820
