SLENDER BLUE PENSTEMON: Found in meadows and open woodlands through central and southern Alberta. Smaller flowers than the Lilac-Flowered Penstemon, the whorls of tubular-shaped blue flowers appear in late spring. Grows to 30 - 40 cm high and is well suited for raised beds and/or border and rock gardens. Full sun and dry soils suit it best. Readily reseeds itself and can be on the aggressive side if left unchecked. Moist stratify seeds for 3-4 weeks prior to planting. Press seed into the soil, but do not cover. I start all the Penstemons in cell trays as the seedlings are quite tiny, then transplant in June. 200 seeds. NF821
