MOUNTAIN PHACELIA: This foothill species has taken very well in our plots, blooming in late May and early June. Dense purple flower clusters rise above silver woolly leaves. The plants grow 20-40 cm tall, prefer full sun and rather poor soils. Excellent choice for the dry rock garden, as it adds color in early spring and texture throughout the rest of the season. Seeds should be moist stratified for 3-4 weeks for starting indoors, or sown direct in late fall or early spring as soon as the ground can be worked. Cover seeds with .5 cm of soil. As with most native species the seeds require a cold and wet period to break dormancy. 70 seeds. NF823.
