PASTURE SAGE:
Common
throughout much of the Prairies, this species spreads by rhizomes under the soil
to form colonies over time.
Growing to 120 cm in our plots, the silver-gray foliage with its
distinctive smell makes a great backdrop to other flowering species.
Suitable for the true wildflower area, in a garden situation this species
must be contained.
Seeds are very tiny and should be covered with just a light dusting of
soil. Can
be direct seeded in late fall, early spring or started indoors after a 3-4 week
moist stratification period.
Prefers a sunny site and poorer soils.
