NODDING ONION: Our showiest native onion - umbels of pink to whitish nodding flowers appear anytime from May to July. A bulb forming perennial, this species grows to 50 cm tall and makes a great addition to the rock bed or even the herb garden as it is edible. Tough to germinate the seeds. Plant in late fall direct or start indoors in spring. Moist stratify the seeds for 4-5 weeks before spring planting. I have also soaked the seeds for 24 hours in water then planted immediately. Seeds germinate best in dark conditions, but need to be near the surface of the soil. Sorry, but I have no tried and true method for good germinating success - still experimenting. 40 seeds. NF707
