PRAIRIE ALUMROOT: This native of open woods and meadows produces a base of heart-shaped leaves from which arise 40- 50 cm flower spikes. The tiny, narrow flower clusters range in colour from purple to deep yellow. A relation to the garden Coral Bells, Alumroot makes a good addition to the rock garden when planted en masse. Seeds are extremely small and should be started indoors in April after a 3 week dry stratification period. Sow the seeds on the surface of the soil - they need light to germinate. Can be direct seeded - you will lose most of the plants this way as seedlings are slow to develop and get quickly overrun. Alumroot is astringent. 50 seeds. NF788
