
ALPINE SWEET-VETCH:
Once
common throughout the Parkland region and into southern Alberta, this native
legume is now uncommon in most areas.
Adding nitrogen to the soil, this clumping species is important in
reclaiming a site.
Plants grow 50-100 cm tall and produce racemes of pale purple and violet
flowers in June.
Full sun to partial shade.
Seeds are encased in hard shells and need to be moist stratified for 4-5
weeks prior to planting or seed direct in late fall.
Cover the seeds with .5 cm of soil and keep moist. 100
