HEART-LEAVED ALEXANDERS: This widespread species prefers semi-shaded areas on the moister side, and will make a nice addition to the filtered light flower bed. Growing to 60 cm tall, umbels of yellow flowers appear in May and June. Tufted perennial. Plants received their name from the lower leaves which are heart shaped. Only this species occurs in Alberta. Seed should be sown in late fall or very early in the spring direct. If starting inside in containers, the seeds should be cold stratified for 3-4 weeks prior to planting.
