SALPIGLOSSIS:   Also called Painted Tongues, this Chilean native does remarkably well here in a sunny site with rich soils. Growing to 70 cm, the flowers are a mix of purple and yellow with differing vein colours. Seeds are slow to germinate but well worth the wait. Sow indoors in late March - early April, covering the seeds with .5 cm of soil and keep warm and moist until germination occurs.  Seeds may germinate better in darkness, but this has not been my experience. Transplant out when all danger of frost is over.  40 seeds.    A248.
